RETURNING TO LIVE CONCERTS - Switzerland 2020
Here we are - in the middle of a most unusual concert season.
In some parts of the world, performances happen mainly online. In others, protocols and regulations make live events possible again.
I feel incredibly lucky to return to Switzerland, a place that feels like a home away from home.
Switzerland is one of those locations where live performances are gradually and carefully phased in, and I was very thrilled to present my annual autumn tour here.
Making Zurich my base I got to present seven solo recitals throughout the country. It felt amazing to play for live audiences and there was such excitement about being at a live show!!
What I love about playing in Europe is the variety of concert instruments.
Adjusting to the piano sounds and tone concepts of the various piano makers is a fun challenge for me. Each piano brand has its individual characteristics, and of course, each instrument sounds different.
I quite enjoyed performing on this beautiful and quite rare Grotrian-Steinweg in Basel:
Luckily, there is always a good amount of time to get acquainted with an instrument before the concert.
Enjoy this short sample of a beautiful Hamburg Steinway in the heart of Zurich and the short excerpt from Ludwig van Beethoven’s variations in c-minor WoO80:
This year, saying hello from my greenroom in Zurich before the concert has a completely new meaning for me, a feeling of excitement, and of hope for a great future of live performances!
