Back on Tour - INDIANA TO SWITZERLAND

What a crazy stretch this has been.

Concerts have taken me from the States to Zurich, and it is wonderful to be in the thick of performing again.

This is the beautiful concert hall of the Indiana State Teachers Conference 2021. What an honor to be their featured artist.

Right after coming back from Indiana, I flew out to Switzerland for five solo concerts in Zurich and Basel.

I often get asked what it is like to play on different pianos. Even though I am a Steinway artist, I do not always get to play on one, and it is always a special challenge to adjust to the instruments on location.

Here are three different pianos I played on my tour, and they all come with different features.

Top left:

The Burger & Jacobi piano, a Swiss brand now no longer in existence. I really liked this little upright for warm up work.

Top right:

A Grotrian-Steinweg, known as a Brunswick due to its origin from Braunschweig in Germany. Heinrich (Henry) Steinweg established the Grotrian-Steinweg factory in Germany, emigrated to the US, and eventually launched Steinway & Sons. I quite like this piano and absolutely love its history.

Bottom:

I personally love the Bechstein instrument, don’t get to play them very often, but really enjoyed the old world sound of this one.

Occasionally I have a free day on tour, and that’s always a great chance to see a bit of the surroundings.

This time I got to explore what is known as the ‘Klangweg’ (sound path), a hike lined with all sorts of fun musical instruments. The scenery was just breathtaking, and I loved the snow dusted mountain peeks.

It is always a little sad to leave Zurich, which really feels like home away from home. Luckily, I’ll be be back in 2022, and I can’t wait!
